    Default New Marshall DSLs

These are bound to be poo, so I wonder if I should hold on to my DSL-50 so I can sell it at insane profit when people realise how much better it is than the new 'improved' version.

My old DSL (401) was hardly a tone monster, interestingly though the new 15 watt uses 6V6

Odd that they've dropped the DSL50, which was always the best (or least bad, depending on how you look at it... ) of the old ones. Hopefully they've cured their tendency for the main PCB to impersonate a fireworks display.

Looks like they've made the same mistake on the 15 as they did on the old DSL201 though - making the overdrive channel the high-gain one instead of the medium-gain one.

And sticking yet another 'custom design' Celestion in it - and a 70/80 in the 40W combo - instead of decent ones.

Oh well. It seems that "surprisingly affordable" has taken precedence over making the best amp they can, again .

I was going to get one of the new DSL15 heads, thought it would be a great amp.

But the stupid buggers at Marshall haven't put an effects loop on it. Utter madness.

I didn't notice that, but yes. *Especially* since they've made the second channel "Ultra Gain". It's just about acceptable on an amp with low gain and which is probably going to be pushed into power-stage distortion since a loop doesn't help much, but not on this.

Wow, a lot of hate here for an amp nobody's played yet.

I've just not had much luck with "new and improved"

Because the features are just badly thought-out. You don't have to play it to know that. It may sound great - although I doubt it without a speaker upgrade, from experience of modern Marshalls - but the lack of an FX loop combined with a high-gain-only dirty channel make it useless for many players.

At best it might sound great but be a bit limited; at worst it's just going to sound quite average and be limited, and break down...

Sorry if I sound jaded but Marshall DSLs are regulars on the repair bench, and I'm quite familiar with the sound of them as well as the problems.

Have you had many of the new ones in?

D'Oh! This exactly why I sold mine after a few months - fine clean sound, decent ROCK tone but nothing in between possible on either channel.
