    Default New Acoustic Day

A little present from the missus, and all it cost me in exchange was a ring of the commitment variety, so I fancy she came off rather better financially!

Anyhoo, a Taylor GA4 is it, have been lusting over them for a while now, and it's a cracker. The only other half-decent acoustic I've previously owned was an all solid Takamine, but my shed has a lighter build than that guitar and unless you used a hub-cap as a plectrum and belted it, it sounded shite.

I'm preparing myself for the Taylor hate (yes I know I could have bought a Larrivee for the same money etc. ), but dampen my enthusiasm you can't because it sounds friggen ace, truely rings like a bell, especially since I chucked some D'addario's on in place of those horrid Elixir's.

As a one-acoustice-man all-rounder for a bit of finger picking and plectum action, I'm a little bit in love.

at least you got shot of that cricket bat..........for that at least you will be lauded

and the fact you went for one without a cut-away

tho TBH, any acoustic purchase is something to be celebrated.......

I actually must get around to trying the new Taylors..............(ex 612/614 owner)

    I'd say that's a win-win scenario!

On paper, I should hate Taylors, but I really like mine (it's probably the least Taylor-like guitar they made though, a non-electro, non-cutaway dread). I found that ditching Elixirs in favour of D'Addarios felt like gaining an extra octave (lower). It also opened up in terms of sound after a couple of years.

Yeah, not sure why people rave about Elixirs personally, they kinda impart an elctro piezo sound to even a non-electro guitar!

fresh out the box - DR non coateds are hard to beat - but after a few weeks/months will mellow too much for my tastes (as with all uncoated TBH) without cleaning. For me they are actually brighter than Elixrs

I used to be a complete Elixr hater-----back when only option was Polys.........however my brook came with Nanos and was pleasantly surprised by the improvement in tone/playing feel over the Polys .........im a picker 90% of the time......... whether that makes a difference I dont know but - my guitars are hung up on the wall and never cased, and the extra life that the Nanos afford for me is worth it over for me a minimal tone loss.

Perhaps I should just try a set of DRs again.........

Bertie, a quick question about wall hanging if I may. All my electrics are on hangers and would like to do the same with the Taylor but with the acoustic do I need to be more careful with dryness due to central heating being on in winter months? Do you use a room humidifier or anything?
