Default For Sale: MJW Martin Whelan Martamp Marshall Plexi

I sell this new amp made for me by Martin Whelan (http://www.martamp.com/amps.html) in June 2012. This is been modified in July 2012 by Sebastiano Barbirato (italian Marshall amp guru) (http://www.brbsamplification.com/) to clone better Plexi amp. He replaced output transformer (it was Hammond that is too little for Plexi style amp) with his handmade transformer (you can see in the photos), hammond choke with Marshall choke and few other component of preamp circuit for nail best the Plexi sound.

The amps have on front panel:
Power scaling --> Eliminated because I don't like it (but he is included) and replaced with Master volume pre-phase inverter
Volume --> Master volume post-phase inverter
    Presence
    Bass
    Mid
    High
    Gain
Boost --> it control the boost that can be add with pedal (included)

    Power amp: Danbury
    Output transformer: BRBS amplification
    Choke: Marshall
    Capacitors: ERO/Vishay poly film
    Eletrolytics: JJ, F&T o Nichicon
    Resistance: Royal Ohm
    Pots: Alpha
    Power tubes: 2 x Gold Lion KT66
    Pre tubes: 3 x Tung Sol ECC83
    Watt: 40

The amp is like NEW, the only little defect is a few scratch on front panel, that you can see in the photos, probably when the tech have modified the amp. I insure that are very minimal. I have use it ONLY in the house at minimal volume for 2 months.

I sell it because I use it only in the home and I need to completely different amp.

Feel free to do an offer!

40 watt amps are designed to be cranked - especially a Plexi......

Gibson this is the problem.. in the house isn't usable.

Martin, the stock amp are too bright for my tastes, so I have changed some component, but despite the improvements, are too loud to use in the home. Also the preamp circuit isn't Plexi style, but probably your own design.

So why remove the Power Scaling?

    Clearly. A Plexi doesn't have a footswitchable extra-gain-stage!

That aside, I think you'll find that the preamp circuit is stock Plexi when the boost is not engaged, barring the obvious (e.g. one input).
Anyway, no hard feelings, good luck with your search!

(Oh and BTW, the mains transformer is Hammond not Danbury. The output transformer was a Hammond 1760L 50W, suitable for a Bassman. Plenty big enough.)

Excellent stuff, glad to hear it!

I'd buy that combo off you if I had the spare funds!

Because with Power scaling the sound became muddy and dark...

Ok for the transformer, I can't edit the first post..

I think that with boost and power scaling I can obtain a good lead sound at home, but I was wrong.

Well, I don't want to go on, but in that case you mustn't have had it set up properly. Anyway, I'm sorry it didn't work for you.
    All the best.

[Edit: .....and if you didn't want to use, it, just leave the control at 10/10, and it's invisible. Easier than removing it.]
