    Default mandolin day

on a whim i bought myself a mandolin, nothing special a cheapy stagg electro. within a few hours id worked through the obligatory "maggie may" and losing my religeon",. Point of this post? none really just to say its great fun and refreshing and im looking forward to adding a bit more musical colour to the acoustic duo i play in.

I recently went to a music festival and watched a couple of people playing mandolins in bands. It made me wonder what they were like to play because they look fun. Is it similar to the guitar?

I had an acoustic mandolin for a while. I found it good fun to mess around with at home, but never really properly got to grips with it (then I wanted to buy something else so flogged it).

I'll get one again one day for sure.

I sold mine recently because I wasn't using it, but: stick it in Open D and play slide, that's loads of fun

I had an electro one for a while and I gigged it a couple of times, but I sold it because I wasn't using it

They are quite easy to play once you get your head around them being tuned in fifths rather than fourths.

I love playing mine, great fun once you get past the miniature fretboard thing.

i quickly learnt some chords and play them in an acoustic duo with a guitarist, just adds another dimension. id like to get an irish bazouki or large mandolin as they sound great, a cross between mandolin and guitar
