Thanks a lot for your replies. Really appreciated. It's only now that I am reading all the posts and catching up with the PMs. Had a crazy day at work. :-(

On why I am asking about those particular genres, it all boils down to motivation and personal preferences. I love guitar playing in any shape or form but love those two styles in particular. Right now I will probably be way more motivated to learn to play say master of puppets than a jazz composition. That's all.
