Default NCD: It's red with a green inside...

    Cheers Twinfan

    Zilla cab with Celestion Greenback.

First impressions: How much louder & "bigger" sounding it is compared to the Vox 1x12 cab.

Also, different guitars now sound very different. For example, LP with 70's Super Distortions sound more suited to heavy rock/metal & a Jagstang with JB in the bridge is louder but more classic rock voiced with the same amp settings (before the difference was extremely subtle).

    Happy days ahead

Very nice. I'm a big fan of Paul's cabs.

You have just proved what is usually ignored (or sometimes even denied) about guitar cabs, including very often by amp manufacturers...

Speaker quality makes a huge difference.

Cab quality makes a noticeable difference.

And that's with two speakers that probably on paper have similar specs - it's not as if the Greenback is the most sensitive speaker on the market.

Why so many amp makers even fairly far up the supposed quality ladder continue to use such characterless speakers and put them in such average-quality cabinets just to save a few pounds off the build cost is beyond me.

    very nice

^ +1. I don't know why I'd buy an off-the shelf speaker cabinet for maybe £500 when I can get the harley benton one with v30s for ~£160 which probably isn't much worse, or if I'm willing to go to £500 I can get something far better from some of those custom builders. In the colour I want, and with the speakers I want.

And the other thing that annoys me (a similar thing happens with pickups) is how they put vintage 30s in EVERYTHING. It's like there's one quality speaker available. (I'm aware they do it because the more they buy the cheaper they get them.) I actually quite like vintage 30s for certain things, but I mean jeez. Fender on occasion has put one in the hot rod deluxe. o_O
