    Default 6K6 valves

I just bought a couple from a seller on ebay (that has a shop and does good transaction) so I could drop them into my fender reverb unit. Sadly it seems they don't work (make crazy popping noises and when I look at the valves, all kinds of crazy colours are happening inside the valves).

Since it did look suspect and dangerous, I turned off the unit and got those 6k6s out.

Anyone know where I can find a good one to put into that unit?

I don't need to really do any sort of biasing with power valves no?

    Thanks

Definitely faulty valves, the 6K6 is a drop-in replacement for the reissue Reverb unit.

Don't worry about the bias, it's correct - it's the 6V6 which biases wrong, hence the harsh and tinny sound it gives. The Reverb is cathode-biased, so it doesn't need biasing for a particular valve, although you would need a different cathode resistor for a different valve type. Fender didn't change the resistor to compensate for the 6V6 - which is an odd decision, but it does at least mean that you can drop in the original valve type without modding it.

6K6s aren't too hard to find - try Hotrox.

Thanks for that, ordered one from Hotrox. Looks like it's good stuff. A quick research shows they were selling a high quality 6K6.

Excited and looking forward to that.
I guess I'll try and get my cash back from the other guy.
