some mic/pickup advice...

So, I have a lovely acoustic that I am really happy with, the sound and action are great. I want to install a pickup - probably across the sound hole rather than deeply embedded - any suggestions would be gratefully received!

LR Baggs M1A if you can afford it - the best I've heard apart possibly from the old Sunrise, and I've only ever heard that going through pro rigs so it's hard to tell for sure how much is the pickup.
The Fishman Rare Earth is good too, although a bit more 'modern'-sounding (somehow "Taylor-like", rather than "Martin-like", if that makes sense) than the Baggs, and has a more subtle appearance, if that matters to you.
If you do want a non-magnetic system that doesn't involve hacking the guitar, a K&K Pure Western is well worth thinking about. It's a bit more of a permanent installation (glued to the inside of the bridgeplate) but not as much as fitting preamps and stuff, and sounds better than typical undersaddle strips.

I bought one form this forum about a year ago and fitted it to my 34 year old Yamaha FG350W. I decided to try the cheapest option first (rather than buying a new electro acoustic) and have been more than happy with the result.
Plenty of reviews on the internet if you want to check them out.
