Here is a really simple way for you to test this. Set up two bands to work in local pubs. One will feature a load of Dave Gilmour style big solos.
The other will be a Mahavishnu Orchestra tribute act.
Make a careful note of which gigs lead to a return booking and then get back to us with the results....
...and? One-Direction sell an obscene amount of records and tickets. Doesn't make them any good.

White-man electric blues rock is the absolute low-point of electric guitar playing in my opinion. Absolutely dire. Don't even know why I opened this thread to be honest---normally I'm quite good at just ignoring the stuff I'm not interested in!

I love Sloe Gin, and bought the Rockpalast and Albert Hall DVDs. I think this performance shows the sort of maturity and taste that any reasonably enthusiastic white-boy blues fan would wish to see. The main guitar solo is from 2:25-5:32!

Like I said, loads of notes in there but they are all played with no tone. The first bit makes me want to turn my skin inside out. Even when he goes for it it still sounds like someone doing warming up exercises. He is getting better, maybe I'II like him in ten years time. All the notes are there and too many more, but he has no tone and no feeling coming through them. I like Buddy Guy, he is aggressive, he fecking just goes for it, mental, as does BB, although sometimes to a lesser extent, but he feels it. This is slushy shite blues. Prefer the original to be honest. There is something fundamental which JB has not got, I don't know if it's attack, vibrato or what, I can't put my finger on it, but he just does not have the feeling. he is a musician guitarist for other tasteless aspiring musicians maybe, but a blues guitar player he is not.

If you can't understand where I am coming from, you probably can't play the stuff yourself either, because you'll never be able to hear it or feel it.

Even BB goes for it and I prefer the original TBH http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fk2prKnYnI

Blues for dentists waiting room PA's is what JB is at present. I just don't get what there is to get about him. I love loads of guitar players from Chris Holmes or Demartini or EVH to Buddy Guy, Jimi and SRV because they move me, they don't necessarily have to be aggressive although it helps but they all can translate tension with one single note, they don't 'play', they squeeze it out one way or another through a cheesegrator. JB can't do that. He is a fluttering, cluttered banal exerciseship good student of a musician. Maturity doesn't come into it. Maturity is often substuted word for banal, as in this case. Honestly I reckon he would be better off on keyboard. JB can just not disengage brain.

It really annoys me that other people can't hear it and it's a serious discredit to BB and the rest of em if you think it is all in the same league.

Anyway check out Buddy Guy live at the Voodoo Lounge, that is one of my all time favs, I'm not a great BB fan.

Anyway it all feckin cliche these days, it's like opera or something, snobbish and stupid. If Muddy Waters was alive today he be in a punk metal band blazing super leads.

Fuck he sounds so much like someone trying to learn the guitar it is not funny. - Sorry just noticed that was some other guy at the end, who probably was. Still Jb can not seem to translate his nervous energy into something soulful that blows me across the room or melts my brain.

Anyway I hate the blues. Especially with keyboard solos. WTF man. Musicians stay the HELL away from the blues. It was never meant to be something you could 'Learn'. FFS. Funk rock Blues fusion shiteness.

    Grrrr....I am so ANGRY!

This was quite a rant, but I agree about maturity. I think JB is about the same age that SRV was when he died. SRV may well have improved even more with age - but the base he started from was MUCH higher than JB. There is a 'studied' quality to everything I have heard by JB that sounds like he's worked REALLY hard to get his technique down, but an underlying lack of musicality that sadly no amount of practice can compensate for. The true greats have a kind of 'off the cuff' quality to their playing that I just don't hear in JB.

I like BCC, if Joe cannot tour i think they should get someone else in for the gigs like Soren Anderson or John Norum.
