Well, once upon a time MR forumites were invited to send Joe some questions and he answered mine! Lovely chap...

( ...and still smiling about the thought of him and Sandi Toksvig!)

I saw him in Exeter, thought he was too overpowering. Incredibly loud for a small venue, but I must say he can play very well, and he had the best live Les Paul tone i have ever heard.
But i did keep walking out to foyer for breaks. I thought that he would probably grow out of the constant "big" solo in every song, but he seems full on all the time. Maybe when he finds his own voice with maturity he will step back a bit. Trouble is every guitar mag does a feature on him almost every other month. Overkill.

Still, it's the signature amp baffles that really make me wanna smash something.
The conductor said I could get my bookbag and run around the hallway with it.

Trouble is, he's already old enough to have developed taste. Mark Knopfler was about 8 years younger than JB when he recorded the first DIre Straits album. MK has an innate understanding that the guitar is there to serve the song. Bonamassa will never get that...

In short he is living the guitarists dream and personbally i like him more because i think he would be sat typing on forums like this if he wasnt doing the job he is doing now.
Yes people are doing new stuff. You can discount the selling out arenas bit because One Direction can prove that means nothing. I too like the fact that he's a guitar geek, yes he has a good tone and plays some okay stuff but some of the people that sit typing on forums like this are coming up with better and more exciting stuff, famous or not. He spends plenty of time typing on his own forum, which is nice for the fans, but personally I don't think musically there's that much to be admired. I like my position as it is thanks.....

Here is a really simple way for you to test this. Set up two bands to work in local pubs. One will feature a load of Dave Gilmour style big solos.
The other will be a Mahavishnu Orchestra tribute act.
Make a careful note of which gigs lead to a return booking and then get back to us with the results....

Actually while I agree with the comments from others about it always being about the big solo, with no subtlety I don't think that's really the problem I have with JB. After all I love Gary Moore.

No, I think my main problem is shit songs, crap production (it's JB's fault for keeping on hiring Kevin Shirley), BUT most importantly JB's awful bland singing.

He's got the power and passion (ie bugger all) of a Christian rock star. Seriously, if you've ever heard any Christian rock, he has got the lame voice for it.. .

Half of the members of this forum are gauging the response of the audience at small gigs (aka Pubs) to determine what and how they play.
It is difficult for me to determine from your comments which group you have the greater disdain for - the musicians or the punters.(This comment does not need a Smilie for emphasis or clarification)
