46 years old, successfully self-employed with family. Sorry pal, you can't get away with that.

Harrasment? What about me, and others who like JB's music, being offended by threads like this. How would it be if someone started threads along the lines of "I hate XYZ", and you can insert your favourite guitar player. That wouldn't be well received, so why is this thread any different? Why do we have to put up with threads that are deliberately started to be divisive? It's my contention that this is sucha a thread, and as you say, we are all entitled to our opinions

Grow up, we all like different music and musicians, deal with it and don't try to offend us with your prejudices. Just because you don't like a particular musician, doesn't make it interesting. It's that simple.

If you a talking to me - pal - read my first post, where I said I like JB's playing and his music but feel that he has been a little overplayed on the radio and in the media. Every third song on Planet Rock seemed to be JB or BCC or adverts for JB's sow. Just tell me where I said I hate him - I never started this to be anti-JB and not in any post have I said I hate him (despite his frog voice!). I believe you are being hyper-sensitive and need to see the whole picture. So - in my opinion - this is NOT a deliberately inciting thread.

By the way - I love Sloe Gin, Black Night, Black Country, If Heartaches were Nickels ....... So I don't hate him.

Shall we all stop arguing about JB and start more threads about how relics are brilliant and modelling gear can go suck it instead?

LOL. People who use the word 'pal' are much the same as those who say 'no thanks: I'm sweet enough' when asked if they take sugar! I entirely agree with you. JB is vasty over exposed. Others may disagree, but they should learn to express their view-point in measured terms.

Fucking hell, are you actually offended by this?

I like Joe Bonamassa to an extent as well, but I'm not in the least bit offended by this. Nor would I be if (as has happened on various occasions) it's people slagging off guitarists I like a lot more, like John Petrucci, who is among my favourite guitarists of all time. I don't agree with what almost everyone else on this site thinks of JP and Dream Theater, but I don't sit there whinging about feeling "offended" when they express those views. People like different things.

This wasn't a thread started simply to say "I hate XYZ" - it was expressing mild displeasure with the fact that Joe Bonamassa is every-fucking-where at the minute, with about four million endorsement deals and a new album every six months. I share this view that it's annoying, but even if I was a rabid fanboy I wouldn't give that much of a damn about a thread like this.

I think you're the one who needs to grow up here.

Sorry. But JB sucks ass. He has the fretboard knowledge. He has the chops. He has the melodic path in his head the way he wants to lead you and wants to go and he certainly has the composition skills. But he plays with as much integrity, strength and soul as a talentess child on Youtube. I have absolutely no idea why he is such a phenomenon. To me is epitimizes everything that is wrong with people who think they like music. His tone majorly sucks ass and the main reason for this is that he skips over his melodies, riffs and runs so lightly with such a lack of committment and clarity that it feels to me as though he is not completely fluent on the guitar. Which is even more annoying because he is. He kind of plays guitar like a Trumpet player with chronic emphasima. He epitomizes the untrue stereotype of souless, banal, white mans blues. His vibrato sucks ass as well.

Put it this way, the days when I turn on my amp and my guitar sounds flat, banal and completely lifeless like JB's playing, I just want to put it down again or tear my hair out. Very shallow playing style.

Simply put, he is more musician than expressionist guitar player.

While I do like some of his stuff, and agree that he has some impressive chops, I totally see where you're coming from. He's a little soulless a lot of the time.

And despite the general consensus about him, I don't believe the same is true of John Petrucci.

He has technical skill to better 99% of the guitarists on the planet, but he sounds anything but flat and lifeless - he delivers every single note with total conviction. And his tone... fucking hell, it's glorious.

I actually like Bonamassa's voice more than his guitar playing.
