I've just pulled the trigger on a MXR Classic 108 Fuzz.

Have a listen to this dude using one.

It was the recent post on here of the Pro Guitar Shop Supersonic 22 special edition that tipped me over the edge though, that demo uses the MXR into the SS22 (which is the amp I will be using it with) and it sounds sublime.

Should get the MXR early next week so here's hoping.
Would be interested to hear how you get on.

I've tried a muff, angry fuzz and a fuzz factory into the SS22 and none were a patch on my BYOC Fuzz Face.

In my ideal universe Dave Gilmour is going through YouTube vids right now wondering how come everyone else can so easily get classic Big Muff mayhem and all he can manage is "Mr Smooth" on Comfor..bloody Numb.

Will keep you posted, the MXR 108 is a fuzz face circuit pretty much.

The Fulltone Octafuzz (with the octave offf) may work for you - thickens up single coils really well without the demented sounds of a Big Muff, bit smoother and cultured to my ears

I love the fulltone 69 fuzz - would like to try the 70s fuzz too

Had an NYC Big Muff and 2 russian big muffs... - preferred the Russians tbh.

Lot's of interesting info here if you're trying to emulate Gilmours tone (although a vital ingredient to that is being DG):

I believe the trick with fuzz is to roll a lot of your tone off on your guitar, or at least wind down your guitar's volume a touch...
As you can tell, I'm not entirely sure, as it's not something I do myself, but I gather the creamy sounds are a case of "lots of fuzz but tame it back using your guitar's controls"..

Anyone got any experience of this and how to get the best thick, creamy tones?

So order the MXR classic 108 Fuzz on Sunday and it arrived by 10:00 on Monday! I discovered a great little pedal shop called Amazon! Wouldn't normally buy guitar gear from there but I had a load of vouchers from a recent birthday and was surprised to see they had the MXR in stock at their own warehouse so what the hell.

Only had a short time with it but it nails the fuzz tone I had in mind, not quite as scooped as the little big muff it will be replacing, much more rich sounding with less wool on the low strings and less shrill on the high. It likes volume though so can't wait to crank it.

In the Philip Sayce interview I read he said something like turn the Fuzz Face up until the hissing becomes unbearable then turn it down a notch from that and then you've got your fuzz tone.
