Not hypothetical answer: if you knew me, you would know that my answer would be affirmative. Possibly why I am not richer and more famous than I am, but you know they say you get what you want, and I enjoy my anonymity and my life.

I realise what I said was harsh, but it's the one thing I truly do deplore, is this general pusillanimity and lack of principle which seem to characterise the human race. Sadly, as I have indicated, 99.9% evidently think as you do. I even discussed this with my father, who as it happens agrees with you that discretion is the better part of valour. "Only if you use the grace allowed by it to ensure the crime is uncovered", say I.

    Yes.
The Reverend Lord Henry was not one of those new-fangled parsons who carry the principles of their vocation uncomfortably into private life.

In that case I'd try and get some evidence and then go to the police. I would take my lawyer with me.

I guess the question gets harder to answer if you know that the powers that be are already aware of the inappropriate behaviour. Whistle blowing is a good thing.
Not quite such a good thing is being a character in one of those movies where you discover something sensational and realise that you have to go right to the top. You sneak into the White House late at night and tell the President what is going on. He puts his arm round you and says "Thanks for coming to see me Jim"
And then puts a bullet right between your eyes......

Would I be able to blackmail them in order to push my own career forward?

Or perhaps shop them secretly? Anonymous tip to the press anyone?

Could I do secret videotaping of my shopping them to the higher ups, so that if I were fired I'd be able to release that video as evidence that they'd destroyed my career for taking a stand against kiddie fiddlers - which the higher ups would not want as the rest of the press would crucify them...

Basically would I be able to turn it to personal gain in any way?

Which is in fact what happens, figuratively, in the majority of cases, and the f***ing lawyer is about as useful as a tissue in the sea.

Never having grown up or seen much of Saville over the years, those few times I did catch his shtick he struck me as disturbingly creepy and as camp as a boy scout jamboree. In hindsight, maybe that should have been a girl guide jamboree.
