I'm particularly interested in the jazz bass kit. A nice ash body, and the rest of the stuff seems ok too. For that kinda price you could easily get a nice DIY jazz for £200 (after pup upgrade and perhaps a few other bits).
I'm tempted to just go for one and try a kind of clarksonesque project. Would love to have the skills to router a body from a blank, but thats just not within my abilities.
Anyone got any experience of these types of thing? I know there are cheaper kits out there, but I really quite like the look of that body! I wonder whether the hardware is of half decent quality.
i always fancied something like that myself. i remember guitarist magazine used to run adverts for some crowd doing this about 20 years ago - i was going to get a lefty strat and do it up for right-handed and call it a moswrong as homage to johnny ramone.
i'm crap with wood, so never followed any of the self-builds through. at the end of the day many shops sell budget electrics for under £100 that could probably be improved with a further £100 of hardware and sound as good as any gujitar costing £100 more.
They look like fairly good quality kits and probably would end up being of slightly better quality than a cheap copy ready made I couldnt help noticing that there seems to be ample material on the headstock of the Gibson models to mod them to Gibson shape but on the fender ones especially the Jass bass that headstock is just out of order and will look like a kit build from a mile away . *edit* On a 2nd viewing I think there maybe enough material on the Fender models to shape those to Fender spec as well , are there any guitar builders here that could confirm that ?
