    I disagree entirely.

If I was learning the Piano and had the money I'd buy a Steinway.

The Studio - a great guitar for the money. At least if he decides that playing guitar is not for him it will be easy to sell. If it were me I'd maybe look at Yamaha Pacifica 112 - cheaper, well made, easy to play with a versatile range of tones.

Hi, thanks for a reply and sorry for a slow reply - tough day at the office. We recently watched JB's School of Rock and he really liked it. But I would suppose he would prefer the "cool" musical style whatever it is nowadays. If guitars won't be his thing - we also have a friend who is a DJ. Lol.

If he likes school of Rock maybe an SG would be a better bet.

The faded SGs are really good value. A mate of mine got his son one and I went with him to help choose it. For the bucks it sounded top notch and played really well.

I wouldn't be playing a guitar if all I had was my brother's Soviet-made acoustic. That thing sounded like shit, held tuning like shit and apparently was even made out of the same material.
I want him to have something something that is well made and is a joy to use. If he won't adopt this guitar - then he will be able to sell it for good money and get something else for them instead. If he won't start playing it right away and will think that he will get back to it sometime later - at least it will make a nice piece of furniture, while, say, Jackson or Ibanez wouldn't (no hate for you guys who play them - some of my friends play them too =).
The thing will come with the Rocksmith game that just came out in EU - to help him to learn to enjoy the instrument.

However If it was a straight up choice between the Studio and Junior I would say Junior.

Nothing on there to think or fiddle about with for the beginner other than what you are doing on the fretboard.
Same thing that I was thinking. The Junior is much easier and more simplistic and it would be virtually perfect! But the price... Why the hell it cost as much as the studio? What is the reasoning behind that?

I agree completely. My friend's Pacifica was the guitar that actually made me consider playing. It was way too cool for that time. And it did that magical thing - distortion. Awesome guitar, but I am thinking about something with a set neck - even if the headstock is more fragile. Thanks for the reply!

I was considering that as well. But it costs close to the LP and doesn't quite have the looks. I don't mean to offend, but it just looks a little bit esthetically unbalanced to me. I like the V more. But you can't play it sitting down.
Please keep in mind, that I've never actually played the SG or V. I make my judgment from the pictures from the internet and from seeing them hanging on the wall in the shop. I am funny like that. =)

why not a second hand v100 Vintage? £100

I dare say most of us started with a banger electric

Learning on it and buying your first proper guitar is like a rite of passage.

not to mention the benefit your playing gets from jumping to a better quality guitar
