There are two types of Ash. Souther Swamp Ash is light and resonant. Northern Ash is dense and heavy. 70s Strats are often way heavier than most Les Pauls. Clarky's one actually effects gravity fields it is so heavy. This is beacuse some bright spark at Fender decided to use the wrong wood and ordered a tonne of Northern Ash.

Unless you are a sustain freak a really heavy guitar just won't sound as nice and woody as a light one. Some Metal players prefer heavy axes as they sustain longer and the sound is less effected by the wood.

I have a customer's 70s Strat here that is considerably heavier than a Les Paul. Would sustain well ... except it has the disgusting pot metal all in one trem bridge!

Well, I'm no 'metal' or sustain freak but I LOVE the sound of my Tele'......It may be heavy, but that's NEVER been a problem!

Hmmm. So there's a range of weights for Fender as well. I've never owned one so I have no idea about them, although I think Strats look awesome.

So I guess it's just all us old farts moaning about our Gibsons.

I'm an old fart and I regularly moan about the weight of my Strat plus. It's 8lb 10oz, as opposed to my Squier CV, that feels very svelte at 7lb 2oz.

By comparison, I have two Les Paul Historics that weigh in at 9lb 1oz and 9lb 2oz.

What's odd is that I don't usually moan about the weight of these because they're average-ish for a Lester, despite being heavier than the Strat Plus. The Strat Plus is heavy for a Strat so it plays on my tiny mind that it's somehow wrong or bad.

What's even odder is that I don't gig so it actually makes no bloody difference as I sit down to play them 99% of the time.

I love Yammie .SG2000s. But I doubt my ageing and much abused back would want to gig one for two hours.

I must weigh my SG3000 and see if I'm a wuss. I have stood up with it for one gig, and didn't feel too bad. Mind you, the stage-diving antics have long-since ceased....

I should perhaps add that I'm not an accountant, and I don't drive an Audi.

Didn't the Yamaha SGs have some kind of brass "sustain plate" embedded in the body for extra spinal torment or did I just make that up?

Then, by a process of deduction, you must be a dentist with a Lexus, a lawyer with a Mercedes or an IT consultant with a beemer.
Actually, I thought that was PRSs? Although I used to have one of those and I'm an unemployed layabout so they're probably not as exclusive as they once were.

    The 2000 and 3000 have a sustain block. The 1000 doesn't
