It just helps to justify having more guitars.

Once going through various pedals, a dirty amp and the competing with the rest of the band no one could tell the difference.

I don't like the look of light-coloured necks.
I don't like maple fretboards except on Stingrays.

I almost always dislike rosewood boards on fender style guitars. Partly it is the look partly the feel. I have a shreddy superstrat thing with an ebony board and that looks and feels fine.

I like rosewood boards on Les Pauls but prefer ebony.

2 yrs ago I had 4 USA Series Strats all at the same time. 2 SSS and 2 HSS....3 were maple and one was rosewood. Now acoustically everyone had a subtle difference that was noticable playing unplugged...but it was here were I ditched my former belief that rosewood was warmer/softer and maple was a harder more twangy sound. I found that not to be the case as I'd read and believed previously.

That said, I still find myself lusting for a Olympic White rosewood board Strat which when I get it I shall leave SSS. But in all honesty its just aesthetic lust really rather than anything else.

Oh, for fuck's sake. I've listened to some shite in my life, and today is no exception, but I'd challenge this wanker to come to my next gig and tell me if he can tell the difference between rosewood, plywood or balsa wood fretboards.

    Yup.
Like I said, utterly unscientific but I'd never A/B'ed my 2 strats before. A little test was enough to make me realise that, for my needs, there's no significant difference between the two.

What is a pisser is that I prefer the look of maple boards (except on red strats for some strange reason) and the feel of rosewood.
It is the most shattering experience of a young man's life, when one morning he awakes, and quite reasonably says to himself: "I will never play the Dane"

Hmm that's interesting I wonder if I could hear the difference reliably.

I tend to only believe in differences I can hear with some statistical significance and 50/50 isn't enough, but they certainly sounded different to me.

Ply would look weird and the frets would pop out of balsa.
