My 4 Strats...all sounded different (subtley but still noticable unplugged) so if 3 which were identical wood wise sounded different doesn't that suggest the argument of rosewood vs maple is so insignificant from a tonal perspective to not really matter in the real world? It matters very much in this way - aestheticly and perhaps in the feel under the fingers of the player.
Tonewise and blindfold I'd bet mr ICBM couldn't get it right consistently if he was handed a dozen strats and played them all one by one and had to state "rosewood" or "maple" at least assuming they all had jumbo frets so he couldn't feel the difference. Further more I'd bet the same thing with a load of Les Pauls to!

Lets say if his life depended on it and if it got it wrong a few times his head was coming off. I bet he'd not want to take the test then!
