John Lennon was once asked in an interview 'Is Ringo the best drummer in the world?' His reply was "Ringo isn't even the best drummer in The Beatles"

He was either being typically Lennon-esque (dry barbed humour) or he was just plain wrong. The proof is in the Beatle recordings with Paul on drums - flashy but unsubtle and with no real feel.

Ringo was an excellent drummer, perfect for the Beatles, and I can only think that people who put him down rate drummers on technical accuracy alone and don't actually listen to the music...

I'm guessing it was the same Goldtop he was using for the '78 Wembley gig they showed after the doc. He mentions buying a Goldtop new in '74 here:
