    Default Southend PMT - repairs

Quick question coz i'm going there this afternoon.

Is the repairs service at Southend PMT any good?

Would you trust them to replace the nut on a vintage Tele?

    Ta,

    Dan

I wouldn't trust them to do it!

Give Chris at Essex Guitar services a call. Top fella and will pickup/deliver the guitar.

Ah ok. I like the look of Chris's site, I shall give him a bell.

    Many thanks, mcsdan!

Anything vintage I would send to Charlie Chandler.

Chris is a top fella. He does the repairs/setups for some of the Southend guitar shops anyway. I've been to most of them over the years and Chris is the only guy I'd trust to do anything properly to a guitar and not charge over the top, no BS and actually do a good job. Top fella.

Octatonic - it's a '74 Tele Custom, so 'vintage' in the parlance of our times, but not an investment guitar by any means.

Besides, I've gone off Chandlers repairs post-Brinsley. I called them about a refret on this very guitar a couple of years ago and they were downright rude on the phone - the chap who answered put me through to repairs and the guy picked up the phone and barked 'What? What do you want?' and continued to speak to me in a brusque and condescending manner for the remainder of the call. Well fuck you too, buddy - you just lost yourself a customer!

Brinsley was an absolute gent though, he did sterling work on my beloved strat.

Anyhow, I called Chris and he seems like a great guy. He's coming round my place on Monday to collect the guitar.

Charlie Chandler and Chandler Guitars are (now) completely different outfits.
I also don't take guitars to Chandlers in Kew for similar reasons.

Charlie Chandler is now (and has been for some time) based in Kingston upon Thames.
I can't rate them highly enough.

Ah, ok. Thanks for the info, Octatonic.
