As a stop press: here is my own competitor in the Wide Range replacement stakes, The Oil City Buccaneer ... named in honour of one of heroes: Mick Green of the Pirates. Built with proper oversized bobbins and steel 'reflector' plate ... but with much easier to source alnico (non adjustable) magnets. This pickup will come as standard with four conductor wiring ... and should be the least expensive 'proper' full size WR in the UK (or US) market.
It's in testing stage at the moment ... but the first samples should be available in a matter of weeks (or less). This has taken a long time to develop and source parts/devise construction techniques for ... but I hope it will see people not just replacing the WRs on guitars with the less than sparkling Fender re issues ... but building and modding instruments specifically to take it.
