Default Jem 7 neck pickup - versatile alternatives ?

Wanting to get more from neck pickup position on an 90's Jem 7VWH ...
(stock is Dimarzio Evolution and has a 13.04 Kohm DC resistance)

I am hoping to match the overall vol balance of existing set but add a coil tap option that really gives a good strat neck sound ...

However would slum it with rail style approach if the Andy Timmons neck tone was available ...

Please share experiences from similar guitars or tone quests ...

    cheers

I recently had my electrics on my RGA fiddled with and found that with a decent volume pot and a fettle, my hot paf and bridge pick up now are actually worth using in positions two and four. The volume drop before was horrific to the point of being un-useable but maybe look at that before changing pick ups.

Hi Jet - cheers for reply ..

The 2+4 positions are reasonably bablanced atm - what I'm really after is a nice single coil neck option - contacted DiMarzio and they advised not to both with the Evolution in a standalone coil tapped mode ..

What about those new Vai pickups? Seem a bit expensive (slightly over regular Dimarzios) but they might do the trick! (that said ur never getting a Strat neck single coil sound from a bucker) but might get you more in that direction.....

I hadnt heard of the resistor approach before - certainly worth investigating ...

The new storm could be an option too - will give Max a call .. I assume as youre local - you know Max - really nice guy - tweaked a les paul of mine a while back and he knows his stuff ... though couldnt get my head round the baseball bat neck les pauls he seemed very fond of ....

I know theres a number of builders / luthiers / pickup guys who grace us with words of wisdom from time to time - would be interested to hear any input from them on this topic ..
