    Default Quick (broken) switch question

Just managed to melt middle pickup lug on 5 way switch whilst removing excess solder , Can I as a temp solution, use the lugs on the other side? I'm trying to wire neck pickup on/off via a switched tone control.Wiring is in bits at the mo and I'd like to see if it all works today, need to order new switch
    Cheers

Yes. It is (electrically at least) symetrical

I think the more predominant question here is, how the hell did you melt an entire lug

Also if it's a 5 way Les Paul style switch, you can take the whole thing apart including the little brown separator boards and install a new lug if you have spares or something similar floating around...ive recycled old lugs and blades from older more knackered switches to repair other more knackered parts in others.

When you do, get a proper USA-made CRL or similar switch - not only are they much better switches in operation, better made and will last more or less forever, they also do not use plastic terminal boards and hence are un-meltable .

There's really no point in using anything else - they're only slightly more expensive than the junk switches.

I would, but they don't fit, this was partly the main impetus for the Routing Rant thread I started

I didn't read that before I posted on this one, but... rout it. There's no point in using a non-correct-size crap switch when making the cavity fit the proper one will be invisible once the plate is back on.
