    Default Relics, MJT in particular...

So, I once felt rather nonplussed about relics. Especially given that the real nice ones were bloody expensive.

I remember seeing this Fender Custom Shop one on here for sale, and loving how it looked, but there was no way I could justify the price to myself...

Plus there was that other niggle, relics are uncool, right...?

So anyhow I've recently been after a body to match a neck I picked up on here, and was mulling over the Warmoth site for a while, thinking of ordering a custom body but unhappy at the cost. That's when I came across the MJT site - and their eBay auctions.

I'm guessing most of you relic lovers will know of MJT; for anyone who doesn't - check out their auctions. Some very lovely bodies - ranging from closet classic to heavily distressed - going for very decent prices. Much cheaper than Warmoth, if you can handle the relic thing and don't want much customisation other than colour/finish, plus all the finishes are nitro.

Then there are their custom orders, lots of forum posts around showing off their work like these...

So after many hours trawling the MJT auction site, and the various forums dedicated to their work, I think I may be a relic convert. So much so that I've now ordered a custom telemaster from him. Look forward to posting some pics when it arrives...

In the meantime, any nice MJTs out there amongst the musicradar fraternity?

(I should add - I'm in no way affiliated, just admiring their work and hopefully a soon-to-be happy customer.)

I'm sorry, but you seem to have reverse polarity on that sentence. It's the shiny guitars that are uncool most of the time!

Nice find. I'm gonna be looking into that.
Custom Tele • Customised JS100 • Fender Jazz V RH bass
    Status bass • Mojo strat • MIJ 62RI strat • Taylor 814CE
Paduak 12 string Chapman stick • inflatable sex doll

Actually the other thing that attracts me is not having to worry about bashing the guitar up on stage / at rehearsal.

The body on my Cabronita is an MJT one - swamp ash, very light, relicing not too OTT. Love it!

If you think something is uncool, but like it and choose not to buy because of how you may be perceived by others, that's a great shame.

The only opinion of a guitar that matters is yours.

May be someone should set up a guitar version of Top Gear's 'Cool Wall' on here where we can endlessly (and baselessly) slag-off each other's taste?

Come to think of it, we do that already...

I agree! And am glad I got past that niggle.

Totally. In fact I'm giving this thread another hour.

My dad has a moderately-reliced MJT Cabronita which is lovely:

My name is Connor and I have a GAS problem.

I also have some videos of myself playing guitar. Here they are.

It's been said before, but sure is a pretty guitar.

Yep, it sure is and it sounds as good as it looks! I played this one at the recent SE Gearfest and I've since played 2 more MJT Teles and they're the Mutts and superb value for money, really well relic'd and very light and resonant too.
