Very true , but what annoys me is that Slash really is a very ordinary player and how many SCOM etc are written weekly by those that can't or won't Gig , He's no Beck Holdsworth Frisell etc , just a pentatonic minor jockey that most players , if they concentrated for a couple of weeks could easily make him look silly

I look forward to being elevated to the status of "most players" one day, but it'll involve getting my guitar tuned at midnight at the crossroads!!!

I enjoyed the gig at Brum, last night! but preferred the Manchester Apollo gig last year...

Slash is another player like Joe Bonamassa - great bluesy players, hyped by the music press. His first solo album was excellent though and Miles Kennedy just took it up an extra notch. Slash however is pretty mediocre compared to other blues players. I can't get into the latest album though.

Of course the problem with Slash is Miles Kennedy - how can anybody stand that whiney voice?

    *just*?

No, he isn't a Beck, Holdsworth etc, but then neither are they Slash. Your point just reeks of snobbery tbh.

Absolutely. His songs were my least favourite on the 'and friends' album. I can't help but think that whineyness was chosen because of it's occasional similarity to Axl.

    Here's my twopenneth.

    I'm a big Slash fan.

I'm not a good enough player to determine just how good he is technically, so I'll leave to those better placed. However, I think it is pretty clear that he has written (or co-written) some amazing (guitar) songs, right from AFD through to Apocolytic Love. The latter is a great album with 5 or 6 wonderful tracks on it ...... none less than Anastasia - which I think is pure genius.

I'm love GnR, VR and the last two albums but I'm not familiar with his stuff from the Snakepit era - is that any good?

Just to add, although he is quiet he does seem to be a genuinely nice guy with a big enthusiam for gear too ;-)

Snakepit, some say is his best work. Ive seen him in EVERY line up he has toured with, and after GNR, snakepit is my fave

I guess that vocal similarity makes it easier to do the GnR stuff live but it also makes the Slash line up very much a GnR Part II rather than having a more distinct identity.

What makes you say he's not using the AFD amps? I saw him earlier in the year and they were in his rig. (His proper rig at the side of the stage, not the show rig on stage)
