Default strings - where and what to buy

Ok, I use standard 010 strings. I used to go ages without breaking strings (or probably practising), now i'm reheasing in a band and practising maybe 10 hours a week.

broke three strings last night and another at the weekend.

    it is getting expensive.

where is the best place to buy strings - not overly fussy about make - will probably buy three sets at a time. left to my own devices i'd probably buy D'addario.

and how often do you guys change your strings?

    cheers

    Nick

I should add to that it might be worth looking at where your strings are breaking. Are they all in the same place? (possible at the saddle)...in which case it could be something to do with the guitar rather than the strings themselves.

    stringbusters
also sensibly priced Jazz III picks

I'll keep an eye on the breaking point - it is a fairly old LP (well just broken in at about 12 years)

    cheers

    This.

If your right hand technique isn't too heavy handed, your guitar is carefully set up with any overly sharp contact points sorted out and you stretch the strings when you put them on, you should find that string breakage keeps to a minimum.

One of my strats kept breaking it's B at the bridge and it turns out the saddle had got a bit rusty.

Filed away the corrosion and put some nut sauce on and it was fine.

I used to buy bulk sets of Pyramids from Thomann - worked out at something ridiculous like £2.20 a set or something

    That reminds me: http://www.axetec.co.uk/guitar_parts_uk_080.htm

I've used these a few times and they are fine.
