The double bass has a surprising LACK of low end, but has plenty of low mids. So roll off the bass a bit, increase the mids a little and roll of the treble a touch too.

Now I just need to work out how I can swing playing an electric bass at some of the local folk jams (they're always after people to play bass). They don't like electric, one guy turned up one night and turned on the lights. They were... unpleasant to him!!!

Ahh, he mentions the Ashbory Bass in that Kala clip - that's another alternative, if you can find one.
