    La Bella nylon coated flatwound strings. Herbie Flowers always chased an upright sound from his Jazz and he left his nylon coateds on for about 20 years!!

    The double bass has a surprising LACK of low end, but has plenty of low mids. So roll off the bass a bit, increase the mids a little and roll of the treble a touch too.

    thx guys and thx for that vid as well eric, makes a lot of sense. Now I just need to work out how I can swing playing an electric bass at some of the local folk jams (they're always after people to play bass). They don't like electric, one guy turned up one night and turned on the lights. They were... unpleasant to him!!!

    That sort of bullshit abuse at a jam night would make me take a more offensive instrument.

    Ahh, he mentions the Ashbory Bass in that Kala clip - that's another alternative, if you can find one.

    The Bass Centre stocks Ashbory, except their out of stock at mo. £249 is a good price though,
