Default lp studio sounds muddy - pickup suggestions?

ive just been playing the intro of oasis - cigarettes and alcohol and wasnt really liking the sound i was getting from my lp, no clarity in the riff at all so switched to my vintage v100. it sounded much clearer with the v100 to my suprise.

both guitars are mahogany bodies and if anything the v100 is more weightier than the lp. would pickup change help with clairty of my lp and if so any recomendations?

    Some suggestions
1)Firstly the LP may have 300k ohm pots in it for vol and tone - swap these for 500k or even better 550k (the CTS/BKP ones are fab)

2)Wire it in 50s wiring configuration

3)swap the cast alloy tailpiece for a n aluminium one

4)have an earvana compensated tuning nut fitted

Then see how you like the sound and consider new pickups at this point (i'd go for something not too high an output)

    Suggestion two:
Buy a Les Paul from Feline instead. If that's not feasible just send it on over to him - problem solved. Really.

    Suggestion three:

    Use a Telecaster.

500K pots will help but I'd check the wiring for poor joins, especially on the pickup selector switch, I have a Les Paul that always sounded muddy on the neck pickup until I resloldered the tags on the switch. Sloppy work from the Gibson Custom shop.
