Default So the Capistan honeymoon period is over?

Everyone was killing for these about a year ago. Now they are creeping into the resale market - what's wrong with them?

They do only a specific brand of vintage and need an extra pedal for a memory bank, but they do sound sweet.

I have one of these. I think it's a great pedal, it all depends on what style of music people play with it, like if you want to recreate old Hendrix or Beatles type tape effects. I think many may have gone toward the Strymon Timeline which I think has capability of storing many of your favourite delay settings. Probably the Timeline is more handy for gigging and maybe more modern sounding.

I have not got the expression pedal or the TRS Favourite box thingy with the El Cap.

For me though it does have a lot of stuff I may not use, it's pretty overkill with extra functions. Maybe it's a good tool for recording with.

    Cheers.

It's possible - the whole Strymon range became flavour of the month(s) - but imho they *are* that good. I use an El Cap and a Lex and have no intention of shifting either, but I'd quite like to try a Flint too
    Red ones are better.

I get the feeling the new TC Flashback X4 is interesting a lot of folks looking for a delay - at the £195'ish new price, its freely available and has a lot of features. It's a no brainer in those respects compared to the £250 ElCap & £399 TLine.

If I were selling an ElCap I'd do it now before the used value drops significantly from the £200 mark it has enjoyed for a long time...

But if you like tape delay first and foremost, the £250 looks good value as the tape emulation is miles better than the flashback (talking of the original FB here, I assume the models are the same in the new one).
The El Cap does what it does very well and sounds lush. The FB is a jack of all trades.

I have the Flint and I can honestly say that it's awesome. I never really thought I'd use tremolo much but I think I'll have it on all the time now, even if very subtly. Nice!

I'm waiting for the El Cap's to drop their price a bit now the Flashback x4 is out. Which funny enough I am seeing a few forum users here selling theirs quite recently, because of the Flashback x4 of course (asking too much IMO). Flashback sounds great but I agree it's a bit 'jack of all trades', which has it's place of course.

I agree with everything you say Bob.

Still, the X4 undercuts the ElCap by £50 and does a range of pretty good delays - so I feel in answer to the OP this is partly why the honeymoon may well be over for the ElCap.

I have the Timeline & am more than happy with it, but again for £200 less the X4 is a no-brainer option for a lot of folks - you pays your money and makes your choice I guess

the Flashback x4 coming out definitely factored into my decision to sell my El Cap this week, I think the Strymon sounded more pristine than any of the individual tones in my x4, but I just needed a bit more flexibility. My only gripe with the x4 is I wish they had made the looper mode selectable by a footswitch rather than the tiny switch stowed away between two huge control knobs!

I bought a Flashback x4 today and I have to say it has really impressed me - 3 tape delay emulations out the box, including a Space Echo, plus the ability to beam patches from yer iPhone which surprisingly actually works! I own a vintage RE201 Space Echo and I have to say the emulation on the Flashback is very good - albeit you can't change the rhythm and tone of the echoes in the same way. Granted, I am very much in the honeymoon period with it but at the moment I'm thinking this is the most enjoyable pedal I have ever bought. It's lush! My space echo is up for sale at the moment and this is certainly going to make it hurt less when it goes.
