cable for connecting amp head to cabinet?

Bass amps have being doing it for ages, guitar amp makers haven't because guitarists are all dinosaurs.....

Actually it's just as much because Speakons - while better - are not necessary at guitar-amp power levels. 1/4" is plenty good enough for a typical 50W into 8 ohms, or even OK for 100W into 4 ohms. (1/4" contact rating is 6A, or at least it is with decent plugs.) Why make things more complicated than they need to be? Guitarists have been using 1/4" for decades and there really is no need to fix something that isn't broken.

At typical modern bass amp power levels like 300W or more into 4 ohms, you do want something better, certainly.

Instrument cable is one core and a sheath whereas speaker cable is 2 cores. The power going through a speaker cable can potentially be a lot bigger than that from guitar to amp so can potentially heat up the sheath wire and cause a fire, a short etc.

Sommer make coaxial speaker cables - it's not the structure that matters so much as having enough copper there.
