    Default String problem

On my Breedlove acoustic I use Elixir Phosphor Bronze strings (11-52).

They're great but I've noticed recently that the G string seems to fray quite quickly and thus need changing to avoid the risk of it snapping mid session.

Could it be a bad batch of strings (was from one of the 'offer' 3 for 2 sets) or could my playing style be bad?

the fraying will be the coating (which Ive only ever seen on Poly's TBH and that was on ones that are 'heavy strummed') that aint going to affect its 'robustness'

or do you mean the actual windings are fraying

It's the coating. But just on the G string. But as the coating frays, the string seems to get weaker and prone to snapping!

    a) where does it fray
    b) where does it snap ? (same place ?)

perhaps there's a nick in the string at the same place, deep enough to fracture the steel ?

Try non-coated strings, it will definitely fix this problem.

This is just one of the reasons I hate Elixirs...

It almost always seems to be about halfway between the bridge and the sound hole so I know it's not down to rubbing on the bridge.
