Actually the same goes for Takemines...
I have a Yamaha L series that was in that price bracket - has a under bridge piezo and an internal condensor mic - it is awesome both plugged in and amplified - last acoustic gig I had so many people asking to borrow it (that had other same value guitars) - was hilarious any way - Yamaha are always going to present great value, check em out !

I just bought a Faith Neptune high gloss today from www.richardsguitars.co.uk although I actually went to the showroom to try it first. All I can say is what a fantastic range of guitars! I went for a pure acoustic version as I don't need a pickup on this guitar and the tone, playability and build quality are superb. I seriously recommend you give them a try as they are on a par with anything costing twice the price.

I would take a look at Sigma guitars, you could go for their top-end on that budget. I bought one recently on the strength of their prior affiliation to Martin and a few reviews here and there. I am very impressed. I bought the 000-28 because my actual Martin 000-28 was experiencing too many near misses. The sound isn't quite the same as the Martin but damn close (probably the difference between laminate vs solid back and sides).

If you could measure tone per pound (sterling) I would say the Sigma is much better value than many other guitars. I used to own a high end G Series Takamine and the Sigma blows it away. Mine's not an electro so I can't really comment on that aspect but most Sigma's come with Fishman electrics, which can't be too bad.

Yep, I've had a couple of LL6s and an LL16-also a hand-built Japanese LL26 which was exceptional. Very, very nice guitars and a big step up from the FGs and APXs if you're playing purely acoustic-the APX is a bit on the over-built side for good acoustic tones. The LL6X/LL16X is the electro version, although I haven't tried one. You also get a good semi-rigid case with them.

I played a smaller bodied one (no idea what the model no was) down at what ever Sound Control is called these days, in Bristol - around the high £400s to £500 range - had a neck like a base-ball bat and as heavy as one, felt totally unballanced - was fairly dead too, but I put that down to the Timmyo strings on it.

I really wanted to be impressed by it, but was left totally underwhelmed.
