    Default Advanced 12 Bar Blues

    Hello,

Has anyone got any good examples of 12 bar blues with passing chords and a turnaround without turning into Jazz.

    Thanks in advance.

Do you mean RFC0068 standard Jazz or Jazz as defined by the Myer-Krunegg scale of musical genres?

Most Blues pieces with more passing chords in are just Jazz blues changes anyway. Listen to BB King live at the Regal, most of what the band are playing are "Jazz Blues" changes and I didn't see him complaining.

Jazz Blues is fine - For the record Kenny Burrell is my favourite guitarist, so I don't want to get into trouble with the Jazz Police. I just want something that still sounds like Blues or that requires me needing extra fingers

Because no one else seems too keen to help you out...

    http://www.bobbrozman.com/tip_evol12bar.html

That website gives a little history on the development of the 12 bar blues with numerous examples of ways the progression changed and developed. It might be able to give you some ideas.

You could also look into tritone substitutions for a good passing chord, but it's typically used in the ii - V - I jazz progression. You might be able to find some decent uses for it in a standard blues though.
