    +1 for the Eko Ranger...

We used to call mine the sideboard, as it was about the same weight and construction - but it had a (as ICBM says) characterful tone and I've even recorded with one. You need fairly hefty strings to properly 'drive' the top (they are properly thick!) but with that done they can sound very nice.

And yes, I'd also agree about good and bad ones.

Wow... ICBM and I agree on something!! <only joshing mate>

Thanks for all the thoughts - certainly given me some ideas.

I had a browse round a local shop at lunchtime. The sales guy pointed me towards Simon & Patrick and Faith - around the £400ish mark.

Has anyone got any experience of these?

I literally just bought a Faith Neptune high gloss today. I spent ages trying it and others of the Faith range and all I can say is they are amazing instruments. Top class build quality, great playability and superb sound. I really had a hard time choosing between the Neptune (high gloss) and Jupiter (natural) but ended up with the Neptune because I love the tone of rosewood. I was going to go for a Taylor 114e but I just could not get my head around paying the same money for a laminate guitar as for a Faith all solid wood one; just me I guess....

Vintage V300 is quite brilliant for a cheap knock-about acoustic. I got mine for around £90 new. Has a solid top (not that I cared), plays and sounds nice.
If anyone ever has a Fender Highway One Precision body for sale, please let me know!

    Faith are lovely guitars.

Do you have anyone who sell Breedlove or Tanglewood or Cort around you? They're 3 unbeatable bang-for-buck manufacturers for sure.

I've owned Fenders, Takamines, Ibanezes, Corts and Tanglewoods.

I've got a Cort (MR710F) and a Tanglewood Rosewood Reserve (parlour, singlecut, b-band pre-amp). Both fantastic and very different guitars, very good price. The Tanglewood's laminated, the Cort isn't. I generally prefer the Cort but the Tanglewood's a great/more comfortable (for me) workhorse gigging acoustic and very solid too!!
