I've pretty much given up on Open tunings, but I have used G & D extensively over the last 20+ years.

Never nothered learning all the notes[1], but it's easy enough to learn what sounds right, especially with a slide.

[1] I don't know all the notes in concert tuning either - see above about sounding right

Not sure it's possible or realistic! Even Pierre Bensusan gave up trying (according to an interview I saw) - that's why he's stuck with a single one (DADGAD).

Experimenting with different tunings is great. Current ones I like are FACGBE, DADGCF, and DAFGAC

When I am a master of std tuning, I might try something else. Otherwise - it's hard enough to hit the right notes when they're in the right places, let alone when they've been moved around!

The trick is to use the strings with the altered pitch as drones, and play the unaltered strings in the middle in the usual way!

I've never found it that difficult!

For most of the open/alternate tunings that I use it's most often the case that a lot of the strings will be tuned to a note that can be found in standard tuning anyway (in fact, in DADGAD or DGDGAD, they are all notes which can be found in standard tuning) and if you've got a good knowledge of the fingerboard in standard tuning, I find it quite straightforward to just transfer the bulk of that knowledge.
