    Default Strummy / Singy songs

It's a bit of disgrace that I can't sing for toffee so in an effort to improve that and in a double whammy get more use out of my relatively new acoustic Im looking for suggestions of easy to sing sons that can be don on an acoustic.

Since I'll be starting from scratch singing-wise strummy songs are robably the way forward so i can concentrate on singing but feel free to suggest anything you think is a good started son even if the guitar part isnt completely noddy.

Tend to prefer grunge, rock, metal etc rather than classics but might not hurt to get a few "standards" under my belt.

Plenty of Lindisfarne/Alan Hull stuff to try.
    American Pie
    Dylan
Then there's acoustic versions of electric stuff - try Nirvana?

    G n' R's Patience is quite easy to sing/play.

As above, try a stab at some of Nirvana's Unplugged set...

As for standards that you might want to try:

    Some Springsteen perhaps?

"Maggie May" (tuned down a full step if range is a problem)

Steve Harley "Come up and see me (make me smile)"

"Across the universe" always goes down well.

I'm going through the same thing and tried a few songs but couldn't get it. In the end I chose Mad World by Gary Jules. 4 Chords ( transposed to Em G D A ), pick an easy strum pattern (D D U U D) and keep the same pattern and rhythm all the way through the song. When I got to play all the way through without stopping/slowing down I then started to sing. I spent on average 15-20 minutes a day on this and it took me about a month to be able to play and sing it from start to finish. In all about 10-12 hours practice (I can play an electric though so am not a complete an utter beginner). I'm now looking at songs in the genre I really wanted to learn but couldn't at first.

    Hope this helps

Buy a Capo! Try anything, moving it and try singing down an octave etc. If it sounds ok then its ok. Try anything you like, you dont have to do Dylan stuff because you have an acoustic etc. Do acoustic versions of the stuff you like, slow it down, speed it up!etc. The capo may make your guitar sound like a Mandarin, its all good imo.

Space oddity - Bowie, you can speak much of it and the chords are fun.
Mull of 'kintyre - McCartney. Easy to play and sing, change the key to suit.
Some Oasis stuff is not exactly taxing on guitar or vocals.

"The Passenger" by Iggy Pop always gets people singing.
