    Question Multritrack recording

    Hi folks.

I'm looking for a dirt cheap multitrack recorder, preferably (but not manditorily) one that I can use to bounce tracks so that I have more than just the four or eight or whatever to play with.

I don't even have a mic if I'm honest, but even just having a multitrack is a step forward and I can start constructing little insturmental sketches using the line-in.

I am flat broke, so the cheaper one is the better. Anyone got any recommendations at all please?
I'm back and better than ever.

Micro BR is pretty cheap and you can use the V Tracks to bounce around on. Just a thought.....have you considered Reaper or Audacity?

I get latency issues with my computer that stops audacity from working and I haven't the faintest idea how to fix them. I have tried numerous solutions.

for sketch-booking ideas, cheap small standalone recorders rule, f*ck the pc! Switch it on, wait for it to boot, load the music recorder programme, faff about... and you forgot the riff by the time the damned thing is setup to record. get a hardware zoom, boss or whatever multitrack recorder, Boss BR-80 or whatever & be done with it

Regarding the PC, do you have a separate audio interface or are you trying to use the built-in sound chips? Unfortunately, without a dedicated audio interface, you are pretty much doomed to suffer large latencies.

All the hardware multi-track recorders I know of have the ability to bounce tracks, so I don't think that will be an issue. You can pick up some of the older recorders now dirt cheap. The only drawback on older devices is memory capacity and the ability to back-up recordings to something else. Machines with built-in drum machines can be useful to help play along to, though most have fixed patterns that can become limiting over time. A cheap external drum machine could fix that if you felt the need.

You do need to look for a recorder with a Hi-Z input and some guitar processing FX, unless you are first running into a pedal or a Pod with an emulated output.

I'd suggest you look on eBay for some likely recorders, then post some links back here for comment.

(edit: I have assumed you are playing guitar but you could quite easily be using synths - in which case the HiZ input is not necessary).

Yes Daw's especially older ones are really affordable s/h you just have to run the gauntlet a little bit with regards to hardrive & cdr drive condition and ask the right questions . CDr burner / backup is a useful function which means hardrive space is less of an issue . Theres absolutely loads to choose from Akai boss roland korg etc ive always found korg to be the most easiest to use but not always the cheapest .
You can pick up an 8 ,10, 12 or 16 track quite reasonably these days .
If you get to try before buy a s/h daw run disk utilities on said recorder before you take it away .
Your budget would be useful .
