    Default Which Mini Bass Amp?

Impending sprogging means that I'm going to be giving up my band at the end of the year.

My current gig rig is an EBS HD350 and a NEO212 which is far too big and loud to be in the house when I'm not using it so the plan is to trade it for a mini head and cab, or a compact combo.

The requirement is that it needs to take up minimal room and be usable at home, but be punchy enough to cover a live situation if I want to do some depping, or the odd gig. It doesn't have to be uber light.

I'm planning to buy it SH using the proceeds of selling or trading what I've got now.

So far Markbass and TC seem like the obvious candidates.

    What would you recommend?

A friend of mine has an Ibanez Promethean, which is absolutely amazing for the size of the thing. 500W, although only 250 into the internal 10" speaker. Still loud enough for gigs just on its own though.

    Pretty colour too .

I use a Phil Jones Cub 100 at home. It's 100w but with a DI out.

There is a Mark Bass CMD 121H on basschat at £550 at the mo.

It's better than the 121P - cabinet is a little bigger and it as the horn tweeter (H) rather than the Piezo (P) which can be a bit hissy.

BUt it is was my money - I'd get a Genz

I can recommend either the TC BH250 or BG250 at the moment with the rebate - as long as you get it from one the retailers taking part.

Thanks for the tips (Had forgotten to follow the topic)

I'm trading my cab for one of the Mini TC 2x12s and thinking about swapping the head for a Reidmar.

My favourite solution to the size vs volume vs usable at home and at gigs problem for bass is a preamp/DI and a pair of headphones. I'm much happier and playing a lot more since I switched.

I don't use a bass amp at home, I use a small guitar amp. At the volume I'm playing at it's not at any risk, and it's still less boomy and travels through walls less than a proper bass amp. I have been tempted by something like the Promethean or a little Mark as well, but I can't really justify it. I tend to use house amps or borrow something on the rare occasions I ever play bass in public these days.

Does that mean a Cornell Romany could be used? hmm... I see a quick win at home

Yes, if you're playing quietly enough not to overdrive it, or the speaker. For just practicing in the house you almost certainly will be.

The only risk to a guitar amp from playing bass through it is to the speaker.
