Default Please Help Me Identify These Classical Guitar

    Hi guys,

I bought this Admira guitar a few years ago in a shop in Belfast. It says the model is Teresa but, after looking at the price of the Teresa I honestly don't think that I paid £600 odd quid for it - I might have paid £350 - £400 max for it. Unless Teresa guitars have shot up in price? It is maybe 5 or 6 years old.

    Anyone know what it's worth?

Are the back and sides Rosewood? The bracing on the back suggests a solid, as opposed to laminated, back so it is probably what it says it is.

Yes, they sure do look like Rosewood. I guess it is the Teresa, maybe I picked it up cheap, or maybe the price was a mistake?

General inflation rises plus Euro exchange rate changes probably account for most of the difference. 5-6 years ago you got quite a better exchange rate. 6 years of 3% inflation alone adds £77 to a £400 guitar.

So what do you guys think I should ask for it? It's in good order, apart from a little crack in the side of the nut at the treble side. It plays perfectly though. Maybe £200 - £250?

I'd ask for at least 50% of the current price.

This website seem to indicate £410 as the new price. Not sure where the discrepancy is because there are indeed some others that show much higher prices.

For what it's worth, expensive guitars do not have stickers that say "solid top" on them because at the price/quality range of an expensive guitar, a solid top is taken as read and does not have to be advertised. I'm even surprised to see a sticker like that on a guitar costing as *much* as £400, since you can get solid tops as far down as about £150 or less now. But since it's the lowest model in the Admira range with a solid top, it makes some sense.

It looks like a nice guitar though - it looks well-made and very classy (apart from the sticker!). Does it have a traditional classical neck? (Like half a tree...) I'm kind-of thinking of getting another one but the size of the necks always puts me off. I had a nice-sounding old Alhambra a few years back, but it gave me cramps to play it - and yes, I was doing it right with my thumb on the centreline!

"That" website seems to have cut and pasted from somewhere else. It doesn't even sell that brand of guitar and I'm betting that its quite an old article its quoting from.

ICBM it does have a proper classical neck. I find it a little hard to play but have ordered low tension strings as they are supposedly easier to play with...

Low tension strings are unlikely to give you what you seek, I find they tend to make a guitar sound a little dead without changing the feel.

If a classical has "stiff" strings, particularly on the lower frets, it's normally due to the nut being cut too high. I have two classical guitars and the difference in playability (softer feel and lower action) and improved tone and sustain of both when they were properly set up with a bone nut and bridge was remarkable, worth every penny.
