Default Gibson in 'Chucked Together' Shocker!

    I found this on youtube:

The guy from "Prem-Ear" Guitar having a tour around the Gibson factory. Now is it me or is this the WORST advert for Gibson ever? The staff just seem to be chucking them together like they are making bits of cheap furniture.

    It's put me RIGHT off.

I'm going to seek out some of our talented UK builders in future, someone who takes time to craft an instrument!

I couldn't see anything wrong with the video. We revere and look after the finally built guitar, but until it's leaves the factory, its just bits of wood and metal stuck together.

Depends how you look at it, you could say they make it look easy they're so good!

What exactly do you object to? This is a commercial operation. A boutique builder will be more "hands on" partly because he, or she, doesn't need some of the machinery used here to produce a small output; however making a boutique guitar will still necessitate going through the same steps. As someone, who has made a couple of guitars, i rather enjoy seeing how one of the "big boys" makes them. The only thing, that made me blink a bit, was the guy chiseling the neck tenon, who was chiseling towards his other arm. One unfortunate slip and he'd have a nasty injury.

The camera work gave me motion sickness.

What's that mark by the bridge here on the far left?

Looks to be a dark line in the wood. Probably going to be a solid colour finish guitar.

One of the questions asked of Gibson Kalamazoo workers in the 'Golder Era' is what was it like. It was a factory job then as it is now.

I think I was taken aback by the impersonal way in which they are built. I'd like to think that my favourite Gibson guitar was lovingly handmade and someone took time over it - rather naive of me perhaps, as everyone rightly says, it's a mass produced, factory production line.

I suppose I've been spoilt watching Damian Probett's videos recently, now there's a guy who really cares (and I'm sure very much like MR's other resident luthiers!)

I thought the video was very good though I find the guy from premier guitar a little awkward at times. I do prefer the prs factory tour though. I must also google the epiphone factory tour I haven't seen that one.
