I've been taking two electrics to all my gigs since 1981 and adding the occasional piezo acoustic as required since about 1985 when they became cheap and practical. I think I have got the hang of it now.

True and true but I have seen people use some pretty high end gear to play some pretty low end places and it would just worry the crap out of me to do that. Although, I suppose if someone was going to nick something from a pub they probably aren't making that decision based on it being a 3200 Squier or a £2000 vintage reissue.

Sorry, the Edit function on here doesn't work at work ( nor do the smilies), that's a £200 Squier if it was at all confusing!

In my experience "semi pro" and hobby players tend to have the more expensive gear as they can use their day job to subsidize their playing.

Most of the pro players I know (and by pro players I mean people who earn their living predominantly from playing music) tend to use "cooking" gear.

I gigged for a long time without a spare because I didn't have one and fortunately it was never an issue. Nowadays I always take a spare which acts as a backup for me and the rhythm guitarist.
I couldn't be arsed with chopping and changing during a gig and tbh, I find it difficult to adjust to different guitars quickly so I probably wouldn't play as well if I did.
I always use the same guitar, my fat neck 335 and have an SG as spare but the one time I had to swap it was like I'd picked up lefty by mistake! Weirdly, if I go straight to the SG (which I've had longer) it feels as comfy as an old well worn pair of slippers/bridle/gimp mask (delete as appropriate).

For most of the last couple of years, I've been gigging with just the one guitar - the Jaden S2 - and I've never had a problem with reliability (which means I will now...) or versatility. Two splittable humbuckers and an excellent tone control...I can get pretty much any sound I want out of it. We only use Eb standard and drop-Db, so retuning once mid-gig isn't much of a problem.

I'll probably start taking the N4 with me as a spare, though...at least until I can get myself another Jaden Rose. We're starting to get gigs further afield now and at better venues, so safety is the order of the day (we both normally share a spare guitar, and it's only the other guitarist who's ever needed it...5 times in the last 6 months...).
