i can understand different-guitars-for-different-tunings, but different-guitars-for-ever-so-slightly-different-tones is pushing it. to be honest, a lot of the audience don't realize these things and i, perhaps cynically, somethinges think it's a way of the player showing off his gear

I think if you play clean(ish) then the tones are far more apparent, do agree though, there is a band around here where last time I seen them the lead guitarist had about 6-7 guitars through so many effects that they all sounded exactly the same.

I used the five that night (though one was for charity the TPO) but it was still too much for me, I can get away with two easily, one for open G and slide workthe other standard. But I have done the same with just the tele for a long time.

I'll usually go out with my Eggle Berlin Pro, Les Paul, and one single coil guitar; either a strat or tele depending on my mood.
Its rare now a days that my charvel sees the light of day... Lovely instrument but the trem on my eggle takes care of all my floaty needs

If im honest I could manage a whole night with any one of 4; Eggle, Les Paul, Strat (with midboost circuit), or Charvel. Might struggle a tad with my tele, but im thinking about going 'Keef on it and putting a HB in the neck
