It's amazing how some blokes end up being puppets with their evil, manipulative mrs pulling the strings.

There was someone on here, think it was Timmyo, who had rehearased with a band, got a couple of sets together and got a gig booked. Drummer turns up on the night of the gig with wife, she clocks the good looking female backing singer and promptly demands the drummer quits the band there and then

That's the kind of thing that happens

A scenario I've witnessed countless times:

    1. Band member gets off with girl and it's blatantly obvious to everyone that the main reason she got interested in him in the first place is because he's in a band.

    2. The relationship gets serious. She starts to feel threatened because she can't come to every gig and there are girls around who like guys in bands (she knows the type).

    3. She nags him until he gives up the band.

So she deliberately went after a guy who's main interest was playing music and and then decided she couldn't tolerate having a boyfriend who wanted to play in a band. Nice.

That's only ever happened to me once.

She was a great chick, though, it has to be said.

Ive been struggling to get back in a band recently and what Im finding in Classified land is the amount of classifeds where they ask for a second guitarist or rythym guitarist and then you go there and musically it sounds like a 1 guitar band and you find the other guitar player isnt that musical or proficient, so in effect your being asked to hold a bedwetters hand and build his confidence up. I think some guitarists are dicks, but so are some tuba players but not all of us are terrible.

In my last band the singer guitarist decided he wanted to be more of a guitarist than a singer, so the new material was driven by him and to be frank there was very little for me to do. I always think about the audience and to me i saw no point in being in a band without someone fronting it convincingly. I also had issues with the rythym section overcooking parts. We d do a gig with a band playing simpler parts and they d always go over well live, less is really more through a 6 KW rig. I started to pair down my parts, but no one else seemed interested.

Also the way modern bands try to isolate the songwriting credits to one or to individuals means that many of these adverts are asking you to be an unpaid session player with no equiity or ownership of the project they want you to be involved in. In terms of original bands its like everyones read a manual on how to fuck over the other person, it doesnt make for a better band or better music Im afraid.

I've been in one band split by WAGs, three split by the singer, and I've walked out of 2 bands myself... so I reckon singers win!

I've never had any of the crap described here. Lost the occasional drummer and bassist, but never had any real trouble. Maybe I'm the problem!?!
