Oh, and to remove the wire wool debris from your pickups ... Blu-Tack. In a pickup making workshop magnetic debris seems to magically appear from nowhere ... and a big blob of the blue wonder is kept for de-mucking magnets!

One of the most useful fret finishing tools I have is this.

A slotted flexible plate that protects the fingerboard from that slip of the tool! Just because it has never happened doesn't mean it won't.

I have come across more naff guitar techs than good ones so far in life. You need to find someone that you are happy with, and that guy sounds rubbish to be honest. I pretty much gave up on setups years ago as I had so many poor jobs done. I'm DIY now unless there's a real big problem. I've done fret levelling and dressing, mostly successfully (!) but I'm not sure I'd attack a really expensive guitar, or someone else's for that matter.

Personally, I'm not sure about the 'name and shame' thing. It's one thing to relay displeasure talking to people, but it's another entirely to post on a forum and have it there indefinitely. I'd have to be seriously ripped off to go that route.
