Default I have a new band, finally!!!

I was gutted when my attempt to put together a metal band ground to a halt at the beginning of the year after three extremely frustrating years of trying. I just couldn't find members, the one's that turned up to audition were usually useless (I found a good guitarist and drummer though) and then others didn't turn up at all. When the drummer ran out of money and couldn't come to practice it basically killed the band, I don't blame him or anything, we're all bloody skint these days.

My brother came back form travelling in the far east a couple of weeks ago and it looked like we were going to carry on with a studio project we have with my girlfriend (the link in my sig) and start gigging it but it became obvious straight away that he didn't want to commit to it because I think he already has leaving to go travelling on his mind again and the band would just tie him down.

So the girlfriend and I decided that we would attempt to put a rock band together with an Aerosmith, Black Country Communion, AC/DC, Guns'n'Roses inspired sound. Life's been pretty shit this year for both of us and we quite frankly need this, a release from life's bullshit if you will. So we asked a few people if they'd be interested and three days later we had a line up! We had to change one of the guitarists on the second day due to him and his girlfriend getting into a huge fight about him joining the band, shame cause he was really good, but we found a replacement without any grief.

I was in school with the singer (a looooooong time ago!), my girlfriend was in college with the other guitarist about five years ago, we've never met the drummer but we know of him from a local band he used to be in, the girlfriend is on bass and I'm playing guitar.

I booked our first practice for next week, there's four songs already written and I'm really looking forward! I started out as a guitarist in a rock band and now it's come full circle and that's cool, although I haven't practiced in years so I better get my ass in gear! It shouldn't take too long to get back up to speed though.

We're gonna need to think of a band name pretty soon, we joked about calling it "Staccato Mumba" due to having watched Billy Gibbons in Bones last week but I think we could probably do with a better name!

Cross fingers, I really hope this goes well!

Good luck with it - love to hear some stuff as soon as it's recorded! Like the idea of a wumman on bass, too! Definitely get a better name than that, though!

Thanks dude! I've already recorded a few demos so the rest can learn the songs but the playing is rough as hell - I tend to record while writing (so I can remember it and work out 2nd guitar parts etc) so what's on the recordings is literally the something like the 3rd time I've ever played the riffs (and sounds like it!) and the solos are improvised. Does souncloud do private links? I don't mind giving you a sneak peak on the forum but don't really want the rest of the world hearing really early demos!
I totally agree about the name!

Nice one. Hope it works out. Musicians who are any good AND committed enough AND decent people seem to be as rare as rocking horse shit.

First practice/jam today.........err.......well it would have been if it wasn't for this bloody weather!!!! I just got back after spending two hours in the car trying to do a 15 min journey, bloody mental! There's seriously deep water everywhere, cars abandoned, emergency services all over the place and no mater which route I tried to take they were all closed and jammed up!!! The singer was ill and couldn't make it anyway. Not the best start!

The other guitarist got back home (it took him 4 hrs to do about 7 miles!) to find his kitchen under water! Bum deal.

It better not bloody rain next week!!!
