Please continue with the travelogue, Rocktron. I find this kind of thing interesting, and a refreshing change from religion or politics.

Chicago is recommended. Blues, blues, blues!

Whilst there, one of the other chaps i was with bought a $1,400 push bike. On coming back through Glasgow airport, he decided he'd best go through the red channel, only to find it deserted. He had to track down a customs officer to open up the office for him. The customs officer was irked at this disturbance of his tea and newspaper, and remarked "This is Glasgow, son. Naybody goes though the red channel round here!"

Being stuck on a plane and going nowhere is the worst. I can't imagine two hours of it.

Emp, yes it was Flight No. AA105. You did not sabotage the emergency light, did you?
No, but I saw you go past when I was out walking the pug ! You flew north of me at about 5.20pm.

Not that I'm a boring plane geek (I am), but the amount of info you can get on the net these days is jawdropping...
    e.g. - You flew on a Boeing 777-223ER, registration N788AN, Serial No 30011 LN:283, which first flew on 15th May 2000.
You took off at 16:55 GMT and reached your top-of-cruise altitude of 38000ft at 17:55pm when you were about 40m past the West coast of Ireland, and diverted a couple of hundred miles south of the planned route from this point on, presumably due to weather. Top speed reached was 574mph when you were over Brecon. You made landfall just south of Boston, came in over the Hamptons in Long Island before approaching JFK, where, at 6 miles from touchdown, you aborted the approach for reasons unknown and turned right, over Long Beach, then out into the bay and back in for a second, and successful approach before landing on runway 4R at 19:36 EST. The captain was a closet transexual and wore Agent Provocateur panties for the whole flight, and the woman in the seat to your right was actually George Clooney.

Ok, that last bit I made up.

..oh, and this was the actual plane you flew on....

All correct. We encountered some turbulence.

Correct. The Chief Flight Attendant made the announcement just after touchdown,"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to New York where the local time is 19:45."

"We hope you enjoy your flight." Perhaps that should be "endure"?

I've always wanted to go to Noo Yoik. And San Francisco. And Yosimite National Park. I'll give Vegas a miss. Never set foot in the US though. It's one of those money things... you can (just about) afford a couple of weeks on the beach, once a year, but you can't afford both. I need my two weeks prostrate on the sand or I go mad, so until the money ever appears from somewhere, it'll have to wait.

Keep us updated of what you're doing !

It was a very nice, mild day on Wednesday, so I took the opportunity to go away from the well trodden tourist hotspots.

I did a marathon walk, starting out at Lexington Avenue and 53rd Street, switching to 52nd Street and walking all the way to 12th Avenue. I then walked along 12th Avenue all the way up 42nd Street to 8th Avenue, then onto 34th Street all the way past Macy's to Staples at the corner of Herald Square. (I was looking for A4 printer paper in Staples only to find that A4 paper is difficult to get hold of here. Most stores have US Letter size.)

I went to have a look at the USS INTREPID which is a former US Aircraft Carrier, now converted to a Sea, Air, and Space Museum, and the Circle Line Terminal from which cruise riverboats do a 3 hours tourist cruise around Manhattan.

Here are some snaps I took. Sorry about the large size of the pictures. The time on the camera is UK time.

    1. The "Lipstick" Building (so nicknamed due to its shape), where Bernie Madoff carried out his Ponzi Scheme.

    2. The Citicorp Building. Notice how the "legs" of the building are rotated through 90 degrees, an engineering solution devised when the St. Peter's Lutheran Church located at the corner refused to sell its land. The central lift shaft takes much of the load bearing.

    3. View of the Citicorp Building (the one with the chisel tip roof outline) from 53rd Street.

    4. Propeller from the USS United States, a cruise liner built in 1952. The propeller, one of four, is 22 feet in diameter and weighs 30 tons.

    5. The USS Intrepid.

    6. Circle Line River Boat cruise terminal.

    7. Macy's getting ready for the Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday.

    8. Arriving back in the Queens neighbourhood where I am staying. That is not me in the suit, BTW!!!
