Yesterday, I did another long walk, starting out at Lexington & 53rd Street Station and walking to :-
1. Park Avenue
2. Grand Central Station
3. Crysler Building
4. Bryant Park
5. Times Square
6. Lincoln Center
One of the highlights, was a visit to a free exhibition of the props used in The Lion King.
I then took the M07 bus back to Times Square, passing Columbus Circle along the way. I got off the bus at Times Square and walked to 48th Street to Sam Ash, and from there to the Rockefeller Center subway to get the F train.
New York city is beautiful at this time of the year, and I would recommend a visit in early December. Book long in advance to get cheaper flights and hotel rates, because the place is packed with tourists.
These snaps were taken yesterday of/from the Time Warner Center, Columbus Circle at the the SW corner of Central Park, 8th Avenue & 59th Street. The four lower levels house a designer shopping mall. The fourth level has a bar (with lovely views of Columbus Circle and the corner of Central Park) and a Steak House, which I would imagine is very expensive judging by the appearance of the clientele. I couldn't get access to other areas.
I buy a 7-days Unlimited travel Metrocard for $29.50 dollars which I use on all MTA subway trains and buses. It is very good value considering the number of rides I do.
It turned very cold in the late afternoon, so I quickly got on an M05 bus to 5th Avenue.
Yesterday, I took the E subway train for a visit to Chinatown and Little Italy. I bought a souvenir of the Statue of Liberty after I wasn't prepared to pay mid-town Manhattan prices.
I got off the train at Canal Street Station at 8th Avenue where Chinatown starts, and walked up to cross Broadway and onto Mulberry Street where Little Italy starts.
I then walked all along Mulberry Street and turned left into Spring Street all the way back to Broadway. Then I turned right to Houston Street to catch an F train back to mid-town Manhattan.
Your other halves would love the stretch of Broadway between Houston Street and Canal Street - it is lined with all the designer label fashion stores!!!
Of course, you can still get fake Rolex watches in Chinatown, but they are no longer on public display. The cops busted the production done from a house in Queens, and crushed everything they seized, with a road roller in Times Square.
I observed that Little Italy has become a trendy area again after years of neglect. Families have moved into Broome Street, the buildings have been cleaned up, and the area seems to be thriving. I wish the city would do something about the pavements, though - they are really in a bad way.
It was freezing cold yesterday for a long walk. Here is a sample of pictures taken:-

Notice the bridge in front of the waterfall which leads to the Public Garden. There is also a Public Garden on the left side of the building which is used as an open air bar area, but it is closed during the winter.
There's something about seeing all this going on, half a world away, all that life... it's just that feeling that there's loads to see, lots to absorb. Inspirational stuff.
