Default DIY music vid on the cheap?

I'm sure I've asked this before, but I can't find the thread so I'm starting another one - has anyone got any experience of doing a music video on the cheap and/or any recommendations of stuff that I should have a look at for inspiration? Looking at putting one together over Christmas for The Blacklist Saints (see sig for an idea of the style of music), and for reasons of cash (and punk rock ideals, but mostly cash) we're wanting to do it off our own bats as much as possible.

I'd be looking at splashing the cash on at least one cheap-but-decent video camera so I've got something for myself to really get to grips with and have handy for odd bits and pieces, plus begging/borrowing/hiring another one or two for some multi-angle live footage type stuff. I've also got a decent home studio setup (MacBook Pro, Yamaha 01X automated desk, HHB Circle monitors) and will be at least having my first crack at it using iMovie.

I've rooted this out, which has given me some nice ideas (and is actually quite close to the kind of thing we were thinking about already), and these are giving me the horn visual-wise:

Won't let me put two videos in a post, next one in next post

I'm scouting around for any student-y types who might want to get involved as part of a course or whatever, but any input from you guys re. dos and don'ts / people / videos / cameras etc more than welcome!

I've had a couple of broadcast video degree guys from Ports Uni do some great stuff with just a Canon D550 and a Mac Pro. That camera has a great dsp chip which seems to cope with low level light really well. Even stuff filmed at night outside seemed to come out really well and the colours are really 3D and vibrant.

Rent something like the 550 for a day, shoot as much as poss and then line it up with the audio using iMovie, Vega, Premier or whatever. With a good eye on the camera I reckon you could get a good video quite cheaply

    You did, I remember!

fairly sure I posted this as well:

Not for the content but because it is filmed only using iphones. So, if you know a couple of people with iphones you could forget that camera purchase ( possibly). Although, presumably, a few grand on lighting helped ( and having a Pussycat Doll in your entourage).

That's forum member Ramirez ( err, one of the four!).Quite like that Wildhearts video in as much as its location, location, location.

Last bit - Sandwell college do a quite well respected photography course, the son of a friend of ours did it, and apparently good facilities.Possibly they have students who would be interested, don't know how you make that link but might be worth a try.

that guy never got back to me Ian(sorry), I am just getting into video so little experience artistic wise but I do have a Canon 5dmk2, 7d and 60d at my disposal and will also next week have a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition so plenty of getting it down options..

I have one more Wedding to shoot this saturday and 4 studio shoots next week and then I am pretty much done until the end of Jan so anything I can do to help just shout, it will add to my experience/portfolio.

    iMovie is a doddle

Ah yes, that was done on a little island. It was a live performance, with a few run-throughs to playback for extra shots. Can't remember what cameras they used (it was a Welsh TV company), but it wasn't SLRs.

We did a live gig for broadcast a few months ago which was done on two or three SLRs. That came out nice I think:

If anyone ever has a Fender Highway One Precision body for sale, please let me know!

yep looks good, exactly the sort of thing I have been getting red hot on, front to back focusing, also been messing around with 2-4 set ups recording the same thing and then editing into one, its surprising how easy the process can be..
