Default Loved Songs by Bands You Quite Dislike?

    Hi

Do you have examples of this weird Phenomenon.

The Band in Question Is "Coldplay"

The song is "Don't Panic" (circa 2001)

I'm not going too much into why I'm not massively into Coldplay. The guys do have talent, they are just not my "Cup o' Tea".

I will only go as far as saying I would rather have the hopes of British music lie in the hands of any other band.

I probably "like" about 2 other tracks of theirs but there is something delightful and soothing about "Don't Panic" in its song structure and Melody, although the lyrics and video appear to promote a Political Agenda, which is a shame.

Ironically, I don't think this song even charted in the U.K.

This song doesn't sum up my taste in music or epitomise it in any major way, but it is up there with the 100's of other genuine Favourite songs.

    What are your Oddities?

    Cheers

    Jon.

Disclaimer: This is not meant as an all out Coldplay bashing forum.

    Agadoo by Black Lace.

Sort of. When I imagine being a celebrity and asked onto Desert Island Discs that would be one of my choices as it reminds me so much of going on package holidays when the kids were little and them being persuaded to dance at the Flippy disco by the Spanish entertainment staff. Really brings a smile to my face.

Oh, and Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode who are generally awful (plinky synth music, dreadful singing voice, look like twats). But that is a good song (and the more guitar heavy version I've seen them do on tv improves it more so).
Breeding mammals with insects is my personal bugbear.

I quite dislike U2 but I love "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" off the Batman Forever soundtrack.

Mariah Carey - "All I want for Christmas is you"

    Best Christmas song ever.

    Also..

Blur - "No Distance Left To Run"
    The Kooks - "Naive"
    Arctic Monkeys - "505"
The Cure - "Friday I'm In Love"

Dont panic is an amazing song. One of coldplays best. The solo is fantastic.

I quite like Viva La Vida, or whatever it is called. ..But I also dislike Coldplay.

Bryan Adams and Mel C - Baby When You're Gone. Pretty bad. But something about it gets under my skin.

Beetlebum, Coffee and TV and Out of Time ..and possibly a couple more - by Blur. There's something about Blur I really do not like (Damon's vocals?) but these songs are ace.

+1 on the Mariah Carey Christmas song too.

That's true, it is the best thing I've heard them write. I have only ever really heard their Singles though, hardly any album tracks.

As for Jonny Buckland, I know very little about him other than he must get bored waiting for his parts on a few of their tracks.

I also dislike Coldplay (I think there's a common theme here ... ) but love The Scientist.

I dislike Keane but like Bed-Shaped.

I dislike Radiohead but like Street Spirit and love Fake Plastic Trees.

I absolutely detest Oasis but quite like Do You Know What I Mean (difficult to admit that!)

It's all swings and roundabouts aint it? I like Keane a lot more than Coldplay, the guys voice is superb and I just feel there songs are more energetic. I have to admit I like OASIS for the music. Let's just say I think Noel is a lot more intelligent than his brother. I am ashamed that I have hardly listened to much Radiohead, I should because what I have heard is great songwriting and those guys are very clever. I just never get round to it.
