    Default Minimum price per unit

Won't stop the hardened alkie, but it will make life harder for the likes of us who like a drink now and again but don't buy much anyway because it represent a high fraction of a low income.

I suggest that if HMG don't want people to drink so much, they stop behaving like arseholes, so that ordinary folk have less need of escape from a piss poor existence in this god-forsaken country.

    Yup.

It'll make the poor alcoholics a bit poorer, and no less alcoholic. Rich alcoholics will still be rich and alcoholic. And it'll make the rest of us drink just the same and hate the government just that little bit extra.

I could be totally wrong, but my understanding is that this is only going to affect the really cheap, nasty stuff and things like Special Brew. Probably won't affect 95% of the drinking adults out there, but it might reduce the amount that kids can buy by a little bit.

    Could be wrong, though.

That's the intention, but in reality it's likely to push everything upwards.

Nope, will certainly affect 'normal' strength wines and spirits as well, certainly those at the cheaper end of the spectrum - I very much like the occasional bottle of three-four quid Aldi Italian plonk with my dinner, and often treat myself when the good wines come onto a '3 for £12' offer at Sainsburys, both of which will come to an end if this bullshit proposal goes through.

Will not affect my health massively one way or the other, will curtail my ability to have a nice glass of red with my dinner a few nights a week, will piss me off at the government further punishing me for wanting to have a life. Fuckers.

Special Brew, Jeez I've not had that since uni. I remember one night deciding to get pissed on the stuff, so bought a 4 pack. Passed out before I got to the last can. Mental stuff.

1st brewed in honour of Winston Churchill don't you know.
